Sources of variation in catches and catch rates of Gould’s squid in fisheries off southeast Australia are many and varied. This project identified a range of sources but nothing clear or obvious that could potentially be implemented to improve targeting in these fisheries. The most likely reason for this is confounding variables that affect squid distribution and abundance. That said, this report did provide a range of recommendations for targeting squid that may reduce variation in catches and pointed to promising advances in technology.
