Traceability
Tracking and tracing of seafood products throughout the supply chain is important to ensure the safety and quality of products and that it is sourced legally from sustainably managed fisheries.Consumers are increasingly expecting information on the providence of their food including fishing or farming methods, that it is ethically and sustainably sourced and they are getting the fish they asked for.
In addition, producers want systems that give consumers confidence in the origin of their product and be differentiated from cheaper imports with little sustainability or supply chain controls.
Traceability is also necessary to maintain export approvals to comply with commitments for national and international legislation and conventions.
Fishwell Consulting have undertaken a number of traceability projects including the current project to develop a system that enables shark products to be traced along a supply chain, regardless of the processing or transformation the product may undergo.
